Just a very quick video from you today. A lot of people are getting Macs or Mac Minis. This is This is just a Mac. It's not a Mac Mini. Easier to hold. Okay. But a lot of people are using Mac Minis to run their Open Claw. And in my opinion, it's probably one of the worst ideas you can do right now. Um I actually made this tweet up recently. Um you shouldn't use a Mac Mini and it's getting a lot of traction. Um lots of replies on this as well. So, I just want to make a video to tell you guys that I I I strongly don't recommend using a Mac Mini or anything. >> Uh, do you know why, Ron? >> Why? >> Well, because Open Claw gets permission for everything. Yeah. >> Right. So, whilst it might seem like it's really a good idea because you have maybe reminders, you have calendars, everything on your Mac. >> But the problem is is that your AI gets access to everything, >> right? >> And we already made videos about this um about context window. And this is going to fill up the context window for your AI model really really fast. It's going to look through your emails. It's going to look through your like it's literally going to just go through your emails and start replying. I see. >> Right. It's going to blow up. Right. So I this is like a this is like a PSA for anyone who is considering using a Mac Mini. I know there's like a million YouTube videos about this and >> you know maybe they just want the the the the the clout of running it on a Mac Mini, right? Yeah. But >> or or even like the cool typing live. I've seen those two where people who are running Mac Mini, they they see the their open claw agent is actually typing the things. >> Oh, on the Mac, right? So, I guess it's very like intriguing at the start because you can see them the the agent doing everything. But I I'll list out five reasons why you should not do that. Um number one is just a huge security risk, right? Because your AI agent has access to everything. And a lot of people are not setting this up correctly. And I I saw a fun comment here um about this, you know, like >> if you want to set up your Mac agent correctly, you should really isolate it, right? You should if you want to do a setup like this, you shouldn't use your Apple Apple ID because you use a brand new one. You shouldn't connect it to a local network because >> the way these agents are designed is that they will do the task at whatever the cost in including hacking your current PC, right? That that's on the list of things they can do. If you actually look at the latest release from Enthropic, um, Opus and Sonnet, actually, it's more about Opus, but Opus managed to go onto a local network and just like literally hack for an API key. Literally hack other people for an API key because it needed it to do its work. Yeah. Right. So, uh, your Mac just has way too many permissions and way too many of your life, >> um, bound to it >> to use it safely. So, yet again, I I like, you know, you don't want to ruin your life. Now, you know, some people might accuse me of like trying to sell VPS, but literally $3 VPS can do the thing that your Mac Mini is doing. Don't buy it yet, right? Like, I think if you really need it, yes, but don't buy it yet. Uh, the second one is, of course, cost. Um, you know, a Mac Mini still costs >> more than $3 a month. Okay, think about this. You can feed a server for like years before that cost comes in. I know it's very I know I know it feels like you're doing, you know, the best things and there there are reasons for this. Again, I I do see in limited situations, I think if you wanted to use a browser to start filling in your credit card details, maybe you can use a Mac Mini, but most of the time I wouldn't recommend you doing that. So, yet again, it's cheaper on a VPS. You don't have to use an expensive one, I think. Um, and you got scammed by this in the past as well, right? Where people recommended you like a $50 Amazon server. >> Oh, yeah. No, it was free plan at first with the large. They said go for the large cuz it's 8 gigabytes. It's free. It's free. >> And then later on it'll charge you. But but uh what we've shown you guys on the channel and this is our recommended services and you see Ron and Martin already using this. We're literally using $3 plans uh for our VPS >> and you already have 4 GB of memory which is more than enough >> for normal everyday use. You do not need to use local models. And a lot of people they've been saying oh you can run your local model on your Mac. >> Look right you you can you can run a local model. And yet again, these servers will not allow you to run local models on these VPSs's. However, that being said, those local models are absolute garbage compared to like Opus or even Miniax, right? There's a reason why these companies charge us. And all your server is really doing is it's just forwarding the messages to the AI provider. Yep. >> So, you don't need to have, you know, insane amounts of RAM or anything um at the start. >> Just later on, I think yet again, try on a VPS first. And I I think my favorite button is here. Um it's called reinstall OS. If something does happen, if your AI blows up or if your AI has a million things in its context and you're realizing realizing that context is a big issue, you can just reinstall and just go from square one again, which is >> so it'll clean up all the files. >> It'll clean up all the files. >> Okay. Okay. >> And and that's my favorite button. I've uh when I first started using these VPS's, I just like >> reinstalled everything. And you don't like yet again if you want to reinstall Mac you can but like come on I have to like boot Apple please reinstall my app now I have to make a new login for it like dude there's a million things you should do so um yet again I see I see a lot of people commenting and I'm thinking like why um you should shouldn't um there's other solutions I think some people using a Raspberry Pi and I think these guys are hardcore and that's why I said you have my sword you know this guy's hardcore he's smart right but you can literally get everything done full control with bash access um on your VPS server. It can do almost exactly what you know if you need to browse the web, you can give it to playright. We'll give a tutorial for that. But I would say 90% of the things that you want to do um you can do with a VPS rather than a Mac. And the problem is you have to run that Mac 24 hours a day. >> Exactly. >> Yeah. The electricity costs. Uh hello. Oh, well, I guess I guess if you're paying $30 to enthropy, you're not going to care that much about electricity costs. But that being said, >> you know, I I still feel um it's much more reliable to put it on a 24-hour server rather than, you know, putting something in your basement at home. >> Yeah. >> My my two cents. Uh reason number four uh has to do with context. So, >> I think a lot of guides out there um and yet again, the funny thing is I don't watch those guides, but I'm thinking a lot of these guys are like, "Oh, it manages my email. I have an agent doing this and I'm an agent doing that. And look at the start when you're starting off with just using openclaw have a very specific purpose in mind. For us it was make presentations for our web for for our YouTube videos. Like that's exactly workrelated and we managed to do that with a single uh VPS-based bot and we didn't need to like communicate that much to it. Yeah. >> So I think that was fine. Uh lastly, last tip. I would say this is more of a tip, but what I did is I used a free synchronization service to synchronize my Mac with the VPS. So yet again, you can have a share folder with your bot. So you can do pretty much everything that you can do with here. I saw people saying they can airdrop. Yet again, I don't trust >> open claw with like with airdrop. Look, there there are so many things that AI can do. There are so many things AI can do wrong. I just don't I think most people don't understand, you know. um you know that the the amount of power that you're giving it because you're giving it full system access. I think that's the misunderstanding here. People think, "Oh, it's just an application running." But the application can run new terminal commands. It can run and install new software on your Mac. And it should be installing new software on your Mac, right? Say for example, if you wanted to install cloud code, you should be able to ask your open cloud agent to install cloud code, give it some skills, start programming, making a dashboard, whatever you want, but yet again, you're not revealing who you are. Oh, lastly, this is the last thing. There's a bunch of hackers out there. I feel much more comfortable with a server that I can reset if there's a hacker. You know, I showed you the video. >> You're already under attack, right? Like when you start up a service and open claw um and some people are even browsing mobook. Look, you're exposing yourself to a million attack vectors there. And if you're running any mission critical work, you should not be having a computer on your network that's running LM exposed to mobile. That's like one thing I don't do. Even on my main agent, I don't let it browse mobile because if on mobile there's some malicious code or someone trying to hijack your bot, then >> you know there's no reboot button. but get the reboot. But get just say reinstall the OS, right? You can't do it there. So guys, um that's my five reasons of not using a Mac Mini or a Mac or any spare Mac you have lying around. I this Mac's been lying around on my desk for years. I'm still not using it as a Mac Mini. Like guys, I'm not trying to sell you a $3 service. I don't make a dollar from that, okay? I make 20 cents, okay? But and even less. All right? But I really don't care about 20 cents or anything. But honestly, I think there's a bunch of people with referrals to Apple or something or maybe on Amazon. They can make like 10% of a Mac trying to show you guys a Mac. >> Look guys, don't do that. There's a million ways not to. So, follow us on this channel. I know this is a big debate. I know this is going to cause some fire on the chat, but leave a comment on the chat if you're using a Mac Mini. If you're not using a Mac Mini, leave a comment down below what your setup is. I want to hear that. Um, and yeah, that's it for this video. Thank you guys so much for watching. See you guys next time. Peace. Uh-huh.
